India itinerary

Welcome to India, and what a time of year to be visiting the country. This itinerary has been specifically designed around Holi, otherwise known as the Festival of Colour, a Hindu annual holiday which celebrates 'eternal and divine love of God Radha and Krishna', and the arrival of spring.

So what does your week in India involve? Beyond exploring some of the North's most well known sites (and they're well known for a reason), we embrace the celebrations happening around the country. We'll smear each other in natural coloured paint and powder, tuck into Holi delicacies, dance around burning bonfires, drop into the rhythm of live, traditional music and just generally party joyfully alongside locals. All whilst making positive, authentic connections.

This event in the Indian calendar is incredibly important, and therefore we have designed the below itinerary for those who are interested in learning more about Holi and the beauty of the people that celebrate it. We encourage all participants to research the cultural and spiritual roots of the celebration prior to arrival in Delhi, to fully appreciate and respect its significance, and to better understand the culture.

Day 1 - Delhi

Start your trip by arriving in Delhi, the vibrant capital of India. Spend the day exploring the city's famous landmarks such as the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and India Gate. This city is diverse in culture, has iconic heritage and is a mecca for traditional Indian cuisine.  There's so much to do here, and you can design your day of exploration however you like.

Day 2 - Mathura

On the second day we travel to Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna and the epicenter of Holi celebrations. Attend the Lathmar Holi festival where women beat men with sticks (a harmless, reenactment of an Indian mythological story), and enjoy the colourful festivities!

Day 3 - Vrindavan

On the third day we visit Vrindavan, another holy city that is associated with Lord Krishna. Participate in the Phoolon Wali Holi, where flowers are used instead of traditional colours. Enjoy the traditional music and dance performances, they're quite spectacular.

Day 4 - Jaipur

On the fourth day we travel to Jaipur, the Pink City of India. Explore the city's famous landmarks such as Hawa Mahal, City Palace and Amber Fort.

Day 5 - Jaipur

Attend Holi celebrations in Jaipur where the festival is celebrated with total commitment and great enthusiasm. Enjoy the traditional Rajasthani food, music and dance performances.

Day 6 - Agra

We visit Agra - the city where world famous, and UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Taj Mahal is located! Visit the iconic monument and explore the city's other famous landmarks such as the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri.

Day 7 - Delhi

It's the last official day of the trip (although participants are welcome to continue their travels). We head back to Delhi, where sadly we say our goodbyes. We all head home with unforgettable memories of the Holi festival experience in India, feeling a little bit more connected wth the Hindu culture and Indian way of life.
